Ultima IV is a rarit...

Ultima 4: Quest of the Avatar

Ultima IV is a rarity among RPGs in that the game's story does not center on asking a player to overcome a tangible ultimate evil. After the defeat of each of the members of the triad of evil in the previous three Ultima games, the world of Sosaria underwent some radical changes in geography: three quarters of the world disappeared, continents rose and sunk, new cities were built to replace the ones that were lost. Eventually the world, now unified in Lord British's rule, was renamed Britannia. Lord British felt the people were unhappy and was concerned with their spiritual well-being, so he proclaimed the Quest of the Avatar: He needed someone to step forth and become the shining example for others to follow. The object of the game is to focus on the main character's development in virtuous life, and become a spiritual leader and an example to the people of the world of Britannia. The game follows the protagonist's struggle to understand and exercise the Eight Virtues. After proving his or her understanding in each of the virtues, locating several artifacts and finally descending into the dungeon called "The Stygian Abyss" to gain access to the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom, the protagonist becomes an Avatar. Though Avatarhood is not exclusive to one chosen person, the hero remains the only known Avatar throughout the later games, and as time passes he is increasingly regarded as a myth. games, entertainment adventure, roleplay freeware listed in games, entertainment adventure, roleplay section.

Hunt for Red October

The video game based on the movie was released in 1991 and was available for ZX Spectrum, Amiga, Atari ST, IBM PC, Amstrad, Nintendo Entertainment System, Super NES and Game Boy. The game featured deep sea combat, side-scrolling action, and cinematic sequences. The object is to evade destruction and eliminate saboteurs. The caterpillar drive is particularly useful for quietly escaping the enemy. The Super NES version is one of only a few games that use the Super Scope accessory, though it is only used to play bonus stages that put the submarine in first person view, where the player has to destroy a number of enemies and projectiles. The use of the Super Scope is merely optional. This is a freeware listed under games, entertainment arcade category.

The game takes place...

Super C

The game takes place in December 2634, a year after the events of the original Contra. A disturbing distress signal from General Hal is received, who was on his way to South America in preparation for the GX Army's 7th military maneuvers, reporting that the GX Army has suddenly revolted. The top branch of the federation forces calls forth Bill and Lance to investigate the situation. They arrive at the base ruins, only to find out that the GX Army's troops were being possessed by the same kind of mutated creatures they fought at Galuga (in the original Contra). Thus, the situation becomes grimmer taking into account the fact that Bill and Lance are killing their former comrades-in-arms. As in the original Contra, the North American localization of the NES version changed the game's futuristic setting to a contemporary one, although the premise of Bill and Lance fighting against their former comrades-in-arms remained more or less the same. Super C is a freeware categorized under games, entertainment arcade tools.
