Cheat Checker

Any falsification of information was labeled cheating. Answer sheets that failed the test for independent marking received a score of zero. Students wanting to protest to the Student Disciplinary Committee were offered assistance. Not one student protested. Cheating complaints by classmates dropped to near zero. Students named the software The Cheat Checker. The Cheat Checker examines similar pairs of answer sheets for independent marking. Any pair that fails the test is labeled presumptive cheating. The Cheat Checker then examines the uniqueness of this pair with respect to the entire class. A significant finding for uniqueness and for presumptive cheating is labeled confirmed. Cheating has always been a problem with multiple choice tests. The Cheat Checker helped honest students relax knowing they did not have to compete with those who did cheat. The original Cheat Checker examined one version of a test at a time. There was little need for multiple version tests when using the Cheat Checker in classes of 120 students. There was one exception: When a student was reported to the Student Disciplinary Committee for cheating, only one member fully understood the significance of the results. The committee quickly discovered that the lower the grade, the easier to detect cheating. This was considered unfair. Faculty are more familiar with and accepting of multiple version test results. Students have learned to breach the expected security given by multiple version tests. The current Cheat Checker examines all versions of a test as marked. The structure for each answer file is: nine character ID:one space:answer string. The answer key ID is 999000111. Student records follow the answer key. A Rule of Thumb for Cheating is five to seven consecutive identical pairs of wrong answers distributed in a string of paired right answers.

True Study Skills II

Practice inquiry learning and metacognitive skills. Knowledge and Judgment. Write, review, game and test at five levels of thinking. Instructions and sample data are built in. Students author report/review test bank files. Score as alternative assessments. Convert to remedial exercises and class tests. The three tutor modes stress recall, levels of thinking, and the sense of responsibility needed to learn at all levels of thinking. The question editor prompts for a seven part paragraph: (1) a descriptive question stem, (2-3) acceptable labels or answers and (4-7) related labels and answers that are not acceptable or within desired limits. Only parts (1) and (2) are required. These seven parts are then recombined into dozens of different questions. When writing, students need to determine what is like and unlike, what is within and outside of acceptable limits, what is related and what is not related to the question stem. This is applied critical reading and thinking. They practice inquiry learning and metacognitive skills. Large type makes the program usable for the visually handicapped and for group activities. A fully developed question returns at five levels of thinking or questioning. The five levels of thinking are: (1) Student, responds to a question stem without seeing any answers. (2) Scholar, responds to a question stem that must be visualized. (3) Scientist, selects wrong answers until only one is left. (4) Pupil, selects the traditional right answer. (5) Tourist, gambles that random chance will select an acceptable answer. True Study Skills, True Test Writer, and True Score (scores class tests traditionally and for knowledge and judgment) make up a student/teacher development system. Passive concrete students experience being self-correcting scholars. They learn how to learn (question, describe, label, classify, relate, verify and apply).

True Score 2 answers...

True Score 2

True Score 2 answers practical questions from test scores for managing your course, teaching, and students. It indicates levels of thinking and promotes active learning. A test performance profile graphs the portion of the test that was mastered, unfinished, and discriminating by percent right, question number, and test topic or part. At-risk students are flagged by level of thinking and test topic or part. Multiple version tests are combined into one analysis to save additional time if they are created with True Test Writer. Requires the runtime file msvbvm50.dll. If not in your computer, download from www.simtel.com | VB Runtimes | Msvbvm50.exe. This self-extracting .exe file will install the .dll file. True Score 2 scores multiple-choice tests both traditionally and alternatively. Students can choose either method or both. It is an easy way for students to change from being passive pupils (lower level of thinking) to being self-correcting, active learners (higher levels of thinking). Alternative scoring requires students to prepare for the test in the same manner as for an essay test. They must select questions they can answer with confidence rather than work the test for answers and guess. You can use the same questions for both methods of scoring.

True Test Writer

True Test Writer (TTW) was created to assist in writing large numbers of high quality questions from current class activities and reading assignments. They were needed in paper tests administered to measure knowledge and judgment. Students were given the responsibility to report what they knew or could do with confidence, based on their judgment. This is the basis for authentic assessment. Such testing demands timely, high quality, questions as part of an instructional system. Each topic file holds up to 200 questions. Each test is formatted manually or automatically from one or a number of topic files. TTW contains the same question editor designed for students to record what they learn as they make sense of an assignment using True Study Skills in report, review, and tutorial question files. TTW creates more complex tests. TTW creates single column and double column (NCLEX style) tests. It also creates multiple version tests that can be reduced to one item analysis by True Score. You have one analysis to review rather than one for each version. The question editor prompts for a seven part paragraph: (1) a descriptive question stem, (2-3) acceptable labels or answers and (4-7) related labels and answers that are not acceptable or within desired limits. Only parts (1) and (2) are required. These seven parts are then recombined into over two dozen different questions. The editor prompts from the known to the unknown, from description, to label, classify, relate, and apply in the manner of natural language development. True Test Writer can be used alone or as part of a complete system of clerical and statistical support for an instructional system. After a question is entered by either True Study Skills or True Test Writer, it never has to be entered again. This makes student authored report question files a unique source of diagnostic questions that contain many wrong answers that students at one point in their learning considered to be right.
