JHEditor

JHEditor is a hex editor written in Java. So it is platform independent and works on all modern operating systemes. It was especially designed to work with large files (up to 8 million terabytes, if your OS supports that.) Usual hex editors load the whole file into memory (or into a temporary file) - that can take a while. JHEditor only reads that parts from the file that are needed at the moment. If you change the file, only the bytes you''ve changed are held in memory. So if you work on large files and make small changes this doesn''t need much memory. Insertions and deletions are handled "virtually" as well, so that an insert of one byte does not have to move all the rest of a file around. As copying and pasting larger blocks can still be quite time-consuming, ther is a concept called "split parts". You can specify these parts in the editor and save a few of them (in any order, even from different source files) into a new file, including any unsaved changes you made on this files. The "Save as..." command uses this by saving all split parts of the current file into a new one. Since version 0.6 JHEditor supports Drag&Drop (for opening files) and file compares. jFileSync

JFileSync synchronizes the contents of multiple directory pairs. The contents after the last sync of that directory are stores in a text file and changes on either side (create, modify, delete) are synchronized to the other side. After the directory selection (which can be saved) a table is displayed showing all actions necessary to get the directories synchronous again. If the action is "clear" (as the file has only changed in one of the directories) it is preselected. Otherwise the user may decide how to handle this file. After confirming that table all actions are processed. If actions remain (e. g. the directories changed while synchronization), they are displayed again. This is a freeware listed under networking,system tools,file management category.

WindowGags

WindowGags in a utitlity you can use to "examine" windows. But unless most of the other tools available, you can also change properties of these windows to see their effect. Possible "manipulations" are resizing info dialogs to see if ther is something hidden outside then window, showing hidden windows, moving them around (How about a start-button in the middle of your taskbar?) and much more. This is a freeware listed under system tools category.
