m3uEdit1

m3uEdit is a VERY simple m3u playlist creator/editor. You can drag-n-drop ANY type of files from Windows Explorer and they will be added to the end of the playlist. It accepts any filetype so that playlists for any media type can be made. For instance, Windows Media Player can play various videos, WMA, and MP3 files from a single m3u playlist. You can drag the filenames around to get them in the order you want. You can delete items from the list. You can even edit an item by clicking it a second time (not sure why you'd want to). Then save the file. That's it. Only one option: Include (or not) m3uEdit in the context menus of m3u files. This means you can right-click any m3u file and pick m3uEdit to start editing that file.

Text Ticker is a lit...

Text Ticker

Text Ticker is a little program which scrolls the contents of a text file at the top or bottom of the screen. The text appears in a so-called "appbar" which is similar the the Windows Taskbar. All settings- font, color, text file, etc.- are saved between sessions. The popup menu is available by right-clicking either the ticker or the tray icon. It has a variety of options: - Show the ticker at the top or the bottom of the screen; - Hide the ticker (but leave it running); - Display (or not) an icon in the Windows System Tray (next to the clock). If the tray icon is disabled, it will still show up if the ticker is hidden. - Font can use any font installed on your system, including any size and color available. Note that some combinations do not work well. - Color selects the main, or background, color of the ticker. - Speed controls how fast the text moves across the screen. It has two control settings: Scroll Distance and Scroll Delay. Scroll Distance is how many pixels the text moves at a time. Scroll Delay is how often, in milliseconds, the text moves. Note that some combinations do not work well. Speed can also be adjusted with the arrow keys on the keyboard. The left and right arrows decrease and increase the scroll distance. The up and down arrows alter the scroll delay. Of course, the ticker must have "focus" for the keys to work, so click on the ticker first. Any text file- in fact, any file at all- can be dropped on the ticker and the program will begin to scroll that file's contents. A file can also be browsed for and loaded by selecting Load File on the menu. If Default is clicked on the menu the font and color settings will be retuned to those used the first time it is run. This can be handy if things get hard to read. When the ticker is hidden, only the tray icon gives access to the program. In this case, the menu only offers Restore, Help and Exit. Left-clicking the tray icon alternately shows and hides the ticker.

Find Shortcuts

The window that appear as Find Shortcuts starts is similar to the Find Files window that comes with Windows 98. Most of the elements (menus, buttons, etc.) should be familiar. Shortcuts always have a "target" which will be invoked. Depending on the target, the shortcut may open a folder, run a program, open a document, play a music file, open a web page, and so forth. When "Test" is selected (from the Edit menu, clicking the Test button, or by pressing F7), Find Shortcuts checks the target of each shortcut to see if it is valid. Since shortcuts can have a variety of targets, testing can involve various actions, but in most cases Find Shortcuts simply checks to see if the target exists on your system. During testing, a progress bar appears in the second portion of the status bar. If any shortcuts fail the test, that part of the status bar will indicate how many failed. Shortcuts that pass the test will display a green check mark beside the filename. Those that fail will have a red "X" and the entire line for that shortcut will be red a If the Named box is left empty, Find Shortcuts will search for all shortcuts. Otherwise, only shortcut filenames matching the search string will be found. Wildcards (* and ?) can be used, but are often not necessary. For example, entering "ms" in the Named box will locate all shortcuts which contain "ms" (or "MS") anywhere in their filename. The Named box also includes a drop down list of previous search strings. The Types box can limit the search to only certain types of shortcuts. This can be useful if you are searching through large numbers of shortcuts (e.g., the entire Start Menu). Once you click Find Now (or press Enter) you will see search results (if any shortcuts matching the search criteria are found). Once you see files you can test the shortcuts.

m3uEdit2

m3uEdit is a robust m3u playlist creator/editor. You can drag-n-drop ANY type of files from Windows Explorer and they will be added to the end of the playlist. It accepts any filetype so that playlists for any media type can be made. For instance, Windows Media Player can play videos, WMA, and MP3 files from a single playlist. Several m3u files can be open at once within m3uEdit. Items from one list can be highlighted and dragged to another list. In general, m3uEdit will only have one session open at a time; if you open another file via the context menu, it will open in the m3uEdit session already running. You can drag the filenames around to get them in the order you want. The drive letters or full paths can be easily removed. You can delete items or manually edit them. The display and print font can be changed, and remembered between sessions if you like. Only one option: Include (or not) m3uEdit in the context menus of m3u files. This means you can right-click any m3u file and pick m3uEdit to start editing that file.

JPEG Collager is a J...

JPG Collager

JPEG Collager is a JPEG (and BMP) viewer which shows each image in a window without any border. The best way to see how it works is to play with it a bit, but here is a summary of use. You can open any number of images. Each one is manipulated individually. On the tool window in the title bar you can see which image the mouse is currently over. The active window (the one which will be affected by operations) is indicated on the left of the status bar, with its properties shown on the right. When you see the icon become a hand, left dragging moves the window and right dragging moves the image within the window (unless it is stretched to fill the window). The window can be sized by dragging the edges. The Stretch option causes the image to fit the window. By default, Maintain Aspect Ratio is on. This means that the picture will not be distorted but resized to the height or width you select. For it to take effect (visually), you do have to resize the window. If you turn off Maintain Aspect Ratio, the image will be distorted to fit whatever window size you choose. Right clicking a window will give you a menu of options for the window/image. The Color option allows you to select the background color (behind the image). You can control whether the tool window stays on top of everything or not on the Window menu or the toolbar. You can also hide the main window when you are ready to copy the screen. In many cases it is easier to use keyboard hotkeys. These are shown on the menus and in the hints for the toolbar buttons. Pressing the Alt key or F10 will bring up the main menu of the tool window. The simplest way to capture the collage is to hit F12 to hide the tool window, then the Print Screen key. Press Ctrl-N to create a new image window and Ctrl-V to paste the collage. Then save it, of course.

Shortcut Explorer

Shortcut Explorer version 3.0 looks a lot like Windows Explorer and is intended for shortcut file management. This major update includes a new Favorites menu which includes system defined folders such as Quick Launch, Start Menu, Recent Documents, and so forth. Shortcut files can also be tested to see if they are still valid. Still includes options to start in any file folder from context menu - even from the Start Menu button, option to run the shortcut or see its system properties page on double-click, options to show/hide the main menu. Displayed information columns can be turned on or off. The columns in the right pane show, for each shortcut file, the information available through the Shortcut tab of the Properties page (target, directory, hotkey, etc.). Shortcut files can be moved, copied, deleted, etc., similar to Windows Explorer. New shortcuts can easily be created through drag-n-drop, cut-n-paste, or the system New Shortcut Wizard. Handles *.lnk. *.pif, and *.url shortcuts. Don't settle for defaults. Take control! Make your Quick Launch, Desktop, Favorites Menu and Start Menu convenient for YOU.
